CARM workshops
a dozen eggs recently had the privilege of hosting a workshop alongside Professor Liz Stokoe of Loughborough University’s Social Sciences department.
The workshop focused on marketing services for mediators – what works well and common mistakes, developed using data from real life encounters.
Confounding some of the assumptions around communication that should work, and replacing the talk / text with knowledge of what does work.
In her TED video Liz talks about how many mediators take the ideology route when explaining mediation – “we don’t take sides” for example. The evidence suggests that this doesn’t work. The process oriented explanation produces different results.
Alongside Liz’s insight Jo and I spoke about visual communication – adjusting the design dependent on the context and ideas around brand extension. We found that many of the common mistakes that Liz picked up on in her research extends across marketing material – websites and leaflet design.
